Digitization of the banking system. Opportunities, risks, progresses

Friday, 25 March 2022

Faculty of Law, West University of Timișoara
Timișoara Business Law Centre

The tenth edition of the Banking Law Conference of Timișoara, with the theme Digitalization of the banking system. Opportunities, risks, progresses, will be held on 25 March 2022 at West University of Timișoara, Bd. Vasile Pârvan no. 4, Lecture Hall A01, and will be streamed live on the platform www.juridice.ro.

The conference is part of the prestigious series Legal Colloquia of the National Bank of Romania, and is organized by the Faculty of Law, West University of Timișoara, in collaboration with the National Bank of Romania – Legal Department.

The conference hosts professors from law and economics faculties, as well as top-level experts from the National Bank of Romania, credit institutions and law firms.

The aim of the conference is to discuss the current and complex issues of the impact of new technologies on the banking activity. The premise of the debate is that banking systems are going through a phase of structural changes under the influence of technological advancement. The digitization of banking products and operations involves not only the adaptation of traditional banking to the online environment, but also – in a new stage of banking development – the use of automated platforms and processes, including the contribution of artificial intelligence. The purpose of these transformations is to achieve ever-increasing standards of efficiency, in terms of security, cost and flexibility. The whole banking industry is therefore facing challenges in optimizing and diversifying its business. A critical
assessment from a legal perspective of the opportunities, risks and progresses made brings together theorists and practitioners in the field, in an attempt to make an accurate scan and a realistic forecast.

This event takes place under the auspices of the European Association of Banking and Financial Law (AEDBF Europe) and is financially supported, along with the organizers, by Banca Comercială Română. The media partner of the conference is juridice.ro.

This year, the conference is part of the series of events The Faculty of Law of Timișoara – 30 years, on the occasion of the anniversary of the 30th year of existence of the Faculty of Law within the West University of Timișoara.
